Colleen Bailey

Monterey Jazz Festival
Executive Director
Now in its 62nd year, the Monterey Jazz Festival is the oldest, continuously running jazz festival in the world, and Colleen Bailey is the first woman to serve as its Executive Director, having joined the organization in 2014.  Colleen oversees the 3-day festival with nearly 40,000 patrons annually, as well as the extensive jazz education programs that serve thousands of students regionally, nationally and internationally.  Before coming to Monterey Jazz, Colleen served as the Executive Director of the National Steinbeck Center, the largest literary museum in the country where she developed strategic partnerships with local and national arts and cultural organizations and corporations including the Smithsonian Institution, Penguin Publishing, Cal State University Monterey Bay among many others.  In 2012, Colleen partnered with the Gentlemen of the Road Tour to bring Mumford and Sons to Monterey County.  She and her team envisioned and successfully launched a national program to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the publication of The Grapes of Wrath, which included the commissioning of new work by three nationally recognized artists, and the touring of unique Steinbeck programming to over 30 communities across the United States.
